Snatching Victory from the Jaws of Lucy

I was pretty happy with the way this sock turned out, except for the cuff, which was too loose, and the heel, for the colors. Lucy chewed on just those areas. With the advice and encouragement of the Yarn Lounge wunderknittichers Melanie and Stewart, I reknit the cuff with 000 needles instead of 0's, and constructed an afterthought heel. The new version is modeled by Asia, who is a houseguest this week.

Patients and Pirates

Here we have Delilah the basset hound, with one of my esteemed colleagues.

Today was Talk Like a Pirate Day, so I swaggered into work and greeted the receptionist with "Avast, me hearties". She thought I said "I've lost my car keys" and our conversation rolled away in two different directions. Hilarity ensued until we untangled ourselves.

September

I've been so depressed lately I forgot to celebrate the anniversary of my first Beatles concert.

I'm not at my best this time of year. The cool breezes put me in mind of Januaries past. I'm uneasy and restless, perhaps from some genetic migratory urge, and Back to School sale ads fill me with dread beyond the usual trauma of actually going back to school.

My best winter memory is from when I lived in my former abode. I'd make bread from scratch, put the pans into the oven, then go out and split logs for the wood stove. When I came back in, warmed up and teeming with endorphins, the smell of baking bread was heaven.

Long Weekend

The only way this weekend could have been more perfect is if Robert Redford had shown up, with his old face, the one that wasn't melted.

Sunshine is settling in nicely, and she enjoyed having five houseguests around, all of the greyhound persuasion, of course.

The Yarn Lounge has some lovely new sock yarn, and Pagewood Farm yarn is as new as it gets. This is the first wool/bamboo blend I've indulged in. It's the red ball in the photos.
